All Ages – Any Skill Level This is an unbelievably great opportunity to work with one of the top singer/songwriters in the US. Ask any of your in-the-know friends and you will rush to sign up for this workshop. Dave Moore has issued six recording of his own and he appears on dozens of CDs. He has toured extensively with Greg Brown and he was a regular on Prairie Home Companion for 10 years. Dave Moore recorded at Abundance Ecovillage , 2005 - This is an amateur recording of Dave's song "Coralville", a biting and at the same time very funny commentary on urban sprawl and fast food. This song has not yet been released on CD by Dave. Go see him live to hear the song at it's best! The music of singer-songwriter Dave Moore reflects 20 years of interest in the various roots of American music. He performs on guitar, button accordion, harmonica and vocals. Alongside his original songs, expect some blues, a bit of Tex/Mex accordion, and even a few children's songs written during his spells as an artist-in-residence in the schools of Iowa. Moore was a frequent guest on American Public Broadcast's A Prairie Home Companion, and records for Minneapolis based Red House Records. His compact disc Over My Shoulder was named one of the top ten folk albums of 1990 by Pulse Magazine. His most recent recording, Breaking Down To 3, is co-produced by Bo Ramsey. He tours throughout the United States and Canada. Some of Dave’s early influences include a year that he spent in his early 20’s holed up with his guitar in San Cristobel, Mexico and a year he spent learning from accordion from the best players on the Texas/Mexico border. Dave is on the grant review board for the Iowa Arts Council. Dave has traveled the state on an Iowa Arts Council grant, doing songwriting workshops at public schools. Dave has great improvisational skills. While tuning up for a concert at Café Paradiso last year, Dave played a few bars of Roger Miller’s classic King of the Road. I was intrigued by his adaptation, so, later in the concert when he asked for requests from the audience, I yelled out ”King of the Road”. Dave launched in to a 20 minute version of King of the Road, regaling us with stories of his brief stint riding the rails, working in themes of social and economic justice, private property versus the commons, and freeing the poor, always bringing it back and making the song his own, evoking the spirit of Woody Guthrie. Dave has a universal sensibility in his music, grounded in the prairie of Iowa. WWW.BIGGREENSUMMER.COMANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE IMAGINE•CREATE•ADVOCATE |
