:What is Permaculture?

Permaculture is the design of human habitats that have the stability, diversity, and resilience of natural ecosystems. Permaculture is about integrating housing with energy production, food production, rainwater harvesting, and more. Permaculture is about design, and it is a multidisciplinary design discipline. Permaculture includes renewable energy systems, energy efficiency, agriculture and food systems, natural building, rainwater harvesting, urban planning, and the economic, political, and social policy that make sustainable design possible and practical.

We developed this short course for those who just want an introduction to the field. Even in this short course, you will learn a lot about how to apply permaculture systems around your home from a dozen or so experts in each area of Permaculture. For more in depth study, see our two week Permaculture Design Certification course and our 10- week Big Green Summer intensive in sustainable systems design here\\.
